The members of the board do not receive any remuneration for their work. They are entitled to reimbursement of expenses incurred in the performance of their duties.
The Foundation aims to:
a. collecting (financial) resources, intended for the reconstruction of areas affected by natural disasters, in this case Sint Maarten, Saba and Sint Eustatius. b. offering an (electronic) platform to bring initiatives into contact with each other with regard to the objective stated in sub a.
The Foundation aims to achieve its goal by, among other things:
- collecting goods;
- receiving donations;
- maintaining a digital platform
The Rebuildsxm Foundation was established on Thursday, September 7, 2017, following the devastating hurricane Irma, which left a trail of destruction on our beloved islands of St. Maarten, Saba and St. Eustatius (SSS islands). John Sandiford and Cyriel Pfennings-Richardson immediately took action to help and support the inhabitants of the islands in the reconstruction, so that they can quickly lead a 'normal' life again. The Foundation functions as a platform to unite all current initiatives for the reconstruction of the SSS islands and thus be able to work even more effectively. Our team consists of 9 volunteers, who will be committed to the Foundation in the coming period to pursue its goal. In addition, donations can be made to Rebuildsxm, whereby 98% of the money will be used for articles and projects that help the inhabitants of the islands to resume their daily lives as quickly and as well as possible. Through our strong network on the island, we will ensure that the aid reaches the right people.
Through RebuildSXM project page on Jamsandiford.com and the social media pages managed by Rebuildsxm we try to bring the reconstruction of the SSS islands to the attention. This is done by informing the public about the various initiatives that are being taken both in the Netherlands and internationally to promote the reconstruction. The platform serves to unite the ongoing initiatives. In addition, a fundraising campaign has been started that focuses on the people of the SSS islands. The milestones that have been set relate to school children, athletes and the elderly. When achieving the set milestones, it will be further assessed where Rebuildsxm can be of significance, the long-term vision plays a role here.
The target group in the first round of the set milestones, and how we will help them, are:
School children
Teaching materials and supplies for the students so that they can fully focus on school again. You can think of uniforms, agendas, bags etc.
Sports clubs
Sports equipment to distract children and young people in a positive and constructive way from the misery caused by the hurricane.
The elderly
To facilitate outings for the elderly to remind them of the beauty of the island and to help them socialize.
An inventory will first take place to get the best possible picture of the needs within our target group on the islands. The Foundation is set up to provide long-term assistance.The members of the board do not receive any remuneration for their work. They are entitled to reimbursement of expenses incurred in the performance of their duties.
The financial statement will be published within 6 months after the financial year on the RebuildSXM project page on Jamsandiford.com. Funds were raised through GoFundMe and DoneerActie, as well as by direct transfer and PayPal. The funds received will be used in line with the objectives of the project and the initiatives it supports.
The Foundation does not aim to make a profit.
The Foundation has a joint authority. A director cannot dispose of the money separately, this is to ensure that we handle the collected funds with the utmost care.

- Expenditure
- Gifts/donations
- Fundraising activities
- Office supplies
- Other costs (such as rent, remuneration or management costs)
